Prof. Chen, who joined Syracuse University in 1982, teaches elementary and mathematical statistics and has published more than 40 articles in this field.

He has been a visiting scholar at Cornell University, Stanford University, and the University of Michigan, as well as a visiting scientist at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory.

His research interests include ranking and selection theory applied to the comparison of medical treatments, multinomial selection applied to voter preference problems, and statistical signal processing.
