History and Honors

Project Advance began in 1972 when seven local high schools asked Syracuse University to create a program offering college courses to qualified high school seniors.

Due to its leadership and innovation in creating such an outstanding program, Project Advance has served as a model for similar programs at such institutions as Indiana University, the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and the University of Minnesota. Indeed, it is the only program of its kind in the Northeast to be accredited by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) in affiliation with a private research university and has been honored by the following organizations:

  • American Association for Higher Education
  • Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
  • National Commission on Excellence in Education
  • National Institute of Education
  • New York State Assembly
