James Roger Sharp

Sharp received his A.B. in Political Science and M.A. in American History from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1958 and 1960 respectively. He was awarded a Ph.D. in American history from the University of California at Berkeley in 1966. At Syracuse University he teaches the American History introductory course, an upper division course, the Age of Jefferson and Jackson, and various other undergraduate and graduate courses. He has also taught numerous interdisciplinary courses dealing with contemporary American issues, including a graduate course on the history of public administration that emphasized public policy issues throughout the course of American history. At the London campus of Syracuse University, he has taught a course comparing English and American political history and a comparative political leadership course. Sharp has received several awards for his teaching and research, including SUÕs Chancellor's Citation for Distinguished Teaching and Research, and Scholar-Teacher of the Year. He is also a Gateway Fellow (an honor given for outstanding teaching in lower division, introductory courses). Sharp is the author or editor of six books and numerous articles in the field of United States history and has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship and an American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship.

Thompson received her M.A in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her A.B. in American Studies from Smith College. Her areas of academic specialization are American presidents and religion. Prior to joining SU in 1981 she taught at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois
