Mitchell Franklin, Assistant Professor of Accounting in the Whitman School of Management, teaches courses in Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance and Financial Planning. Franklin completed his undergraduate and Masters degrees, both in accounting, at the Whitman School of Management and worked at regional CPA and Financial Planning firms in the Syracuse area prior to earning his Ph.D.

To recognize his outstanding teaching, Franklin has been nominated for and received numerous teaching recognitions, most specifically a nominee and national finalist for the National Association of Collegiate Scholars National Faculty of the Year award for 2004-2005 and the recipient of the 2005-2006 Whitman School of Management Beta Gamma Sigma Faculty of the Year award.

Beyond the classroom, Franklin is the faculty advisor for Beta Alpha Psi, the national honor society for accounting and finance students, and coordinator for the school’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program.

Professionally, Franklin is a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and has held his NASD Series 7 and 63 Securities licenses. Professor Franklin is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, New Jersey Society of CPA’s, NYSSCPA Syracuse Chapter Young CPA’s Executive Committee, American Accounting Association and Executive Officer of the Whitman School of Management Alumni Association. His research interests are in the area of financial planning.
